Interview: Michael Diamond of ErosArts

Michael Diamond is a famous photographer. His outstanding fetish and erotic photography is among the best in the industry. Besides being an accomplished photographer, he also dabbles in graphite and ink drawings. Michael Diamond and Lady Venus created ErosArts, providing Internet access to their fabulous collaborations - erotically fascinating images and stimulating copy. Michael's talent also extends into the arena of cinematography: He creates and produces reality pornography. Keep an eye on Michael! He's one of the hottest artists in his genre.

What prompted or influenced you to become a photographer? More specifically, how did erotic art enter the picture (no pun intended)?

Originally it was my erotic art that led me toward photography. When I first launched ErosArtist.com in 2002, it was a place where I could display my gallery of nude graphite and ink drawings. I began to create drawings for people from all over the world, using photographs they would send to me of their nude wives or girlfriends. It was a way for me to release my creative energy, while working a tedious 9-5 job. However, I became bored with using poorly composed, badly lit, and uninspired photographs as references for my drawings. So I bought a small digital camera and started shooting more artistic nudes of models who were willing to exchange their time for photos or a drawing of themselves. A couple of years later I started producing erotic videos, which have been very successful, and have allowed me to travel around the world to photograph kinky events. It could all end tomorrow, but right now things are going very well for me!

What would your response be to someone who claims: "Your productions and art work are not, and should not be considered, "'true' art - it's pornography with style - that's all it is."

There will always be people who view my work more as pornography than art and others who will see the beauty. We've come a long way, but the conservative religious right is pushing hard to censor erotic imagery by labeling it obscene. I have always perceived myself as an artist first, and a pornographer second. I don't know if what I do is "true" art, but it satisfies me.

Would you characterize your job - your profession - as difficult or hard? If so, describe some of the difficulties that you face at a given photo shoot or production?

The hardest part of my job is the post-production of the videos or photographs that I shoot. When I'm not traveling, I typically spend 12-14 hours per day editing photos or video, encoding video, burning DVDs, creating box covers, writing reviews of events I've attended, and also intensive networking on MySpace and LiveJournal. Thankfully I have a wonderful partner, Lady Venus, who helps a great deal with many things, including writing descriptions of all of the videos, and photographing at different events.

What do you enjoy most about your job, working in an adult industry, and living the life of a successful artist? Anything you dislike?

I really enjoy my freedom, and the ability to travel to see some extraordinary things. I love to photograph, and create images that I hope stir some sort of emotion in the viewer. I do miss drawing though. It seems that my time is so tight right now with everything that I have taken on, that I don't really have the time to commit to a drawing. I'm a little sad about that, but even if this ride ends sooner than I expect I will have an amazing selection of photographs to use for my art!

The perks. Amazing, right? What kind of perks come with your job? Name a few perks that you appreciate the most.

Being surrounded by beautiful women is a pretty good perk. Making them orgasm on the Sybian... definitely a perk. Photographing some of the hottest latex fashion in the world? Yeah, that's a perk too. Traveling around the world and being invited to photograph the best fetish parties is a great big perk (thank you, FetishMovies.com).

Do you have a favorite performer or model that you work with? Or several?

I have a few models/performers who I really enjoy working with, and their energy inspires me in ways that I have difficult time communicating...except through images! Rebecca from RebeccasRubberRoom is one of my favorites, along with Jean Bardot. On the mainstream side, Emilianna is a terrific performer with a really great attitude. Her videos are among my top selling because she is not only beautiful, but also so much fun. She did a demonstration of the Impulse Jack Rabbit vibrator in a bathtub for me, and let me just say, the visual impact of the scene left me stunned: Seeing how much fun she had, how great she felt - well, it made me wish I had a vagina!

What countries have you worked in? And is there greater access to, and acceptance of, erotic art in other countries, in comparison to the US?

I love to travel, so it's a huge benefit to be able to travel to so many places to photograph, at some of the worlds greatest fetish events. Last year, HotMovies.com sent us to Berlin and Paris for the Venus Shows, London, and Montreal, as well as many events in the US like Fetish Factory's 11th anniversary and FetishCon. And I've found that European countries are much more accepting of eroticism, in general. Here in the states for example, nipples must be covered wherever alcohol is served, yet other countries are much more tolerant of nudity and sexuality.

Do you own and use any sex toys? If so, do you have a favorite?

Oh without hesitation, my favorite sex toy is the Sybian! But I also have a ton of other toys. I've begun shooting a series of videos in which girls explain and demonstrate sextoys. Some of my favorite toys so far include the Impulse Jack Rabbit, and the Hitachi Magic Wand. I just got the Cone, which I'm very anxious to try as well. My sex toy demonstration videos can be found on HotMovies.com under another studio name that I have called SlipperyCat. If you are interested in seeing how some of the most popular toys work, check out my clips. A lot of women and men find the clips - yes, arousing - helpful in knowing what toys to purchase.

You do make videos of performers with popular sex toy, which are available on hotmovies.com. So, in your professional opinion, seeing the action up close and personal, what toys seem to work the best for the stars in your clips/videos?

In addition to the fetish event photography that is on my ErosArts website, I have another website called SybianRides4Cash.com, which shows sample trailers of my videos. This isn't a member site, but is a portal to view my videos on HotMovies.com, or to download and own clips on Clips.com. I began shooting Sybian movies about 2 years ago, and have had over 100 ladies ride my Sybian since that time! The premise of my Sybian videos is that girls are willing to sit on the machine, fully clothed, for the right amount of cash. I pay for the privilege of videotaping them as they lose their inhibitions, followed by their clothing. I tease and deny them while controlling the speed and rotation of the machine, filming a fantastic thirty-minute video; and each women, during each session, has the most intense orgasms of their lives! My Sybian videos are really a lot of fun. What makes my Sybian videos unique is that these are actual female orgasms; I specifically instruct the ladies not to fake it, and I'd say 95% of them are able to reach orgasm on the machine. What a thrill!

Are there any artists you would like to plug - to recommend? Or any performers?

I have such a range of women who I love to work with - from fetish models and performers like Rebecca's Rubber Room, Mistress Jean Bardot, and RubberDoll to mainstream adult performers like Mika Tan and Emilianna. I suppose I'm a little different because I do bridge the mainstream adult world and the fetish world.

Is any of your work featured in galleries, where VibeReview customers and readers can visit? Where can people be exposed to your fantastic portfolio?

Actually I have not really explored showing my work in galleries or books. Maybe in the future when I actually have the time to go through the tens of thousands of images I've amassed to find the few that really stand out for me. For the most part, the best place to see my photography is on ErosArts website. My site is totally free; however, to enter the site individuals must be 18 or older. On my site viewers will find photo galleries from exclusive fetish events, with images taken by Lady Venus and me. Additionally, viewers have access to images from various shoots that I've done with some of my favorite friends and models.

If there was one person in the world that you could seduce, or be seduced by, who would it be?

Hmmm ... only one?

What new projects are you working on? Anything that VibeReview customers and readers need to watch for?

I have a lot of really great trips coming up. Next on my list is Miami eXXXotica, followed immediately by LA DomCon. After that I'll be in Munich for BoundCon, and then I'll be flying overnight to London to shoot the Torture Garden birthday party. Montreal Fetish weekend is also coming up, along with the Fetish Factory 13th anniversary. I should be posting new galleries every week, either from an event or from a one-on-one shoot with a beautiful fetish model! In addition to all of that, I'll be shooting about fifty new Sybian ride videos this year, so look for them on HotMovies.com under the studio Sybian Rides 4 Cash!

What do people need to do in order to watch your video clips?

My clips can be found all over the Internet. I don't sell DVDs, but my videos can be watched either as streaming movies on HotMovies.com for around .08 cents/minute, or as clip downloads on Clips.com or Clips4Sale.com!, where individuals are allowed to burn clips to his or her own DVD. Google ErosArts and you'll find my videos!
